record store day Sharing the love for our independent local record stores

Record Store Day April 17, 2010

This Saturday, April 17th is Record Store Day!   What is that, you ask?    Record Store Day was conceived in 2007  as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.     Independent record stores are such a neighborhood gem.   And, they make me think of John Cusack in High Fidelity.

This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances.

To celebrate, The Queen Anne Silver Platters has lined up some great entertainment:   Creme Tangerine in support of their Beatles tribute cd “Abbey Road Project”, and members of The Wailers, The Sonics, Don Wilson of the Ventures, Howard Kaylan of the Turtles, Jerry Miller of Moby Grape, and Merrilee Rush all pay tribute to Record Store Day and Silver Platter’s 25th Anniversary.      Northgate Silver Platters hosts a special performance by Blake Lewis.      Click here to see how independent record stores everywhere are celebrating Record Store Day.   And, crank the MUSIC!
