Members of the Seattle Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 27, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), are set to host a special media event to kick off the fire fighters’ annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger.
This year’s Fill the Boot campaign officially begins September 29, 2016 at 9 a.m. at five intersections across the city:
15th Ave NW and NW Market Street
Rainier Ave S and S Henderson Street
SW Alaska St and California Ave SW
N 105th St/N Northgate Way and Aurora Ave N
4th Ave and Pine Street
Members of the Seattle Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 27 will fan out across the city with boots in hand as they greet motorists on the street asking them to make a donation in support of MDA’s mission to find treatments and cures for muscle-debilitating diseases that severely weaken muscle strength and mobility.
A member from the Seattle Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 27’s Executive Board, will share a couple words about the importance of this tradition in addition to a local MDA Ambassador living with muscle disease.
“We couldn’t be more proud to kick off this year’s Fill the Boot campaign alongside the inspiring, selfless individuals of the Seattle Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 27 who make a profound impact on our families’ health, wellbeing and quality of life,” said Executive Director Whitney McIlwain “Together with their unwavering Fill the Boot support, we will raise critical funds and awareness to empower kids and adults in Seattle with life-enhancing resources and support that will open new possibilities so they can live a life without limits.”
Funds raised through 2016 Seattle Fill the Boot event help MDA’s efforts to fund groundbreaking research and life-enhancing programs, such as state-of-the-art support groups and Care Centers, including the MDA Care Center at Seattle Children’s Hospital and University of Washington. They also help send more than 75 local kids to “the best week of the year” at MDA summer camp at no cost to their families at YMCA Camp Seymour in Gig Harbor, WA.
