8.31 Hope Solo And The Seattle Reign Championship Match At Starfire

Say whatever you want about her personal life, Hope Solo is still a SOCCER GOD.  She stopped a penalty kick last night in the NWSL semi-final match against the Washington Spirit at Memorial Stadium, something that is rarely ever done.

After a scoreless first half that saw both the Seattle Reign and Washington Spirit  just miss the goal several times, Washington got on the board first in the 65th minute. Damn.

Six minutes later, it would be 2014 NWSL Golden Boot winner Kim Little coming through with the equalizer on a penalty kick (her second attempt after the first was called back for encroachment). Kim hit the second shot even harder than the first time. Dynamic.

The Spirit nearly retook the lead on a penalty shot of their own in the 78th minute, after another handball was called in the box. This is when Hope did her thing and knocked the PK away. Glorious.

Reign forward and National Team player Megan Rapinoe took a while to warm up, but sank the game-winning goal with a boot from the 20 yard line in the 82nd minute. Sensational and nerve-racking.

The Seattle Reign now go on to play in the NWSL Championship game this Sunday in Tukwila against Kansas City. Be there.
