The song, Paradise City by Guns N’ Roses, is just a part of “The Greatest Show on Earth,” the new Budweiser TV ad created for the World Cup.
The long commercial, (almost 2 and a half minutes) stars 4 soccer greats posing as rock stars. The concept, according to Budweiser, is that players are the real rock stars of the World Cup. Duh.
Paradise City is now a slow rap, and it works. Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o is the frontman, and raps new lyrics to the GNR classic “Paradise City.” But it works.
Representing England, Gary Cahill, getting a big ol’ self-titled tat on his back. And on drums, Maya Yoshida, from Japan.
The clip ends with Brazil’s very popular player, Givanildo Vieira de Souza, known around the world as ‘Hulk,’ as the band’s guitarist, tossing his pick into the crowd.
And finally, we see him, after hearing him belting it out, Axl Rose, in the crowd, catching the pick and lifting his Bud to the band. Yes, Axl has thickened a bit, but haven’t we all?
Enjoy your World Cup season, GO TEAM USA!!
