Interview: Karen And Jamie Moyer To Give Humanitarian Award To Seahawks

Karen Moyer, wife of famed Mariners pitcher Jamie Moyer, and all-around great gal and humanitarian, jumped on the phone with me today to talk about how cool the Seahawks are. (And, not just about that whole Super Bowl thing.) The Hawks are big givers, both as a team and individually.

Tomorrow, the Seattle Seahawks will receive The Moyer Foundation’s 2014 Humanitarian Award during the Foundation’s annual Champions for Children Annual Giving Luncheon at the Washington State Convention Center.

Jamie and Karen will speak on behalf of their charity, The Moyer Foundation, which they started in Seattle nearly 15 years ago. Seahawks offensive tackle, Russell Okung, and VP of Community Relations, Mike Flood, will accept the award for the team.

Karen said the giving starts at the top, with coach Pete Carroll and his work with Free The Children and Russell Wilson‘s frequent visits to the kids at Children’s Hospital in Seattle. Karen loves the team’s commitment to giving back to the Seattle community and celebrating the sense of community spirit generated by the team’s dedication to “The 12th Man.”

The Moyer Foundation started back in 2000 and funds Camp Erin (for kids who are grieving the loss of a loved one) and Camp Mariposa (for kids affected by drug abuse). The camps started here in Seattle and are now all over the country. Please give what you can.

Listen to Karen talk about Jamie, the Seahawks, and who her favorite kind of athlete is (soccer, hockey, football or baseball?):
