On September 5th, exactly twenty years ago in 1993, it was a beautiful end-of-summer night out at The Gorge in George. Pearl Jam took the stage for a flannel heavy night of rock. This bootleg video is quite good.

What makes the night noteworthy? Fifteen fans were injured when the crowd rushed the stage during Pearl Jam’s time on stage. ┬áDespite that, here’s a great memory from the mosh pit:

“On Sept. 5, 1993, at The Gorge Amphitheater in George, WA: I was sweating, bruised and sunburned in the dusty mosh pit at what remains my favorite, most life-altering Pearl Jam show ever. They were on the same bill as Neil Young and Blind Melon. They were the biggest band in the world, just a few weeks from the release of “VS,” trying out their new stuff. I was a much younger man, four days from leaving for graduate school in Ireland with my pregnant wife. Their first show at The Gorge. “Nice place,” Eddie said, before launching into “Animal.” Unforgettable.” – Bicycle Joe from The Pearl Jam Forum Page here.
