SWATing At Wolf Blitzer’s House

False Emergency Message Sends Police To Blitzer’s House

Montgomery County, Maryland police are investigating what turned out to be a hoax emergency message at Wolf Blitzer’s Bethesda home Saturday night.

The “Washington Post” reports officers set up a perimeter near the CNN host’s residence near Congressional Country Club, but it turns out that Blitzer was out of town. Captain Paul Starks say the prank was a case of “SWATing,” in which someone uses a text message to create a fake distress call at a celebrity’s home.

He says the costs of responding to such incidents can be high, both in money and time wasted, and in potential danger when police rush to an alleged crime scene.
