The story of how Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and Adam “MCA” Yauch came to be the Beastie Boys is heading to press.  Surviving members Mike D and Ad Rock are writing a book about the legendary hip-hop outfit after landing a book deal with Random House Publishing Group’s Spiegel & Grau.  The announcement comes almost year after Yauch’s death following a three-year battle with cancer.  “The New York Times” says the still-untitled book is planned for release in 2015.  The Beasties’ publisher says the book will take a different tack from your average memoir.  Julie Grau of Spiegel & Grau tells the “Times,” “There is a kaleidoscopic frame of reference and it asks a reader to keep up.”

Hip-hop journalist Sacha Jenkins will edit the book.  According to the paper, it’s expected to be “loosely structured as an oral history” and “strong visual component.”
