Metallica’s new 3D movie won’t only be hitting big screens later this year — it will be hitting very big screens.
The metal icons announced Wednesday that “Metallica Through the Never” will be shown in every IMAX theater in North America for a full week starting September 27th. The band says “there really is no better way” to experience the film, which they promise will deliver “an unprecedented and very unique visit to the movies.”
Still, any Metallica fans who doesn’t catch “Through the Never” in IMAX will be able to see it in standard 3D theaters starting October 4th. The film was originally due out in August, but it appears there is still some post-production to be done as the band says they’re currently editing and putting the finishing touches on the project.
Metallica filmed “Through the Never” last summer over three concerts in Vancouver. The movie combines live footage from the shows with a story about a fictional member of the band’s crew who is sent out on a mission that unexpectedly turns his life “completely upside down.”
