Former Smith’s frontman and long-time solo act Morrissey has announced he’s cancelling tonight’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance because the stars of A&E’s reality television program Duck Dynasty – a popular TV show that centers around a family who make a hearty living selling products for duck hunters – are scheduled to appear, too.
In a statement posted to his Facebook page, Morrissey reps thanked the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show for the invitation and explained the change in plan. “He cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests. Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed.”
Morrissey added to the statement saying, “As far as my reputation is concerned, I can’t take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away.”
The Smiths, and Morrissey were obviously deadly serious when their “Meat is Murder” album debuted in 1985.
When asked why he’d be touring without having new material to promote he told Billboard, “Because a lot of people like me.”
