The crowd and the media went wild after President Barack Obama sang a snippet of Al Green‘s classic hit Let’s Stay Together. The public followed suit boosting iTunes sales of the song several hundred times it’s normal sales volume. Now American Idol has offered the President a chance to appear in a duet with Al Green on an upcoming episode.
Since they were dealing with the President, American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe went right to the top, tweeting Obama directly with the offer. NME reports the Presidential tweet reads, “We loved your vocal performance so much we’d love to invite you on to American Idol this season for a duet with Al Green.” Lythgoe also offered a critique of recent candidate crooning noting, “If it were an election based on vocal talent @barackobama would beat Romney hands down. Mitt was very flat singing America the Beautiful.” American Idol judge Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has previously praised Obama’s vocal ability, describing him as “very soulful.”
