After almost a month former Wham! singer George Michael has been released from the Vienna General Hospital. Michael had to cut short the European leg of his Symphonica orchestral tour after being hospitalized in late November with a potentially fatal lung infection. Austrian newspaper Oesterreich reports “after weeks of treatment for severe pneumonia, the singer was discharged yesterday and immediately boarded a flight to his home in London.”

Michael had feared he would still be in the hospital during the holidays, but it appears things worked out for the best. NME reports George’s boyfriend confirmed the singer was being released from the hospital, tweeting “Christmas at home. I cannot stop smiling today, the best day ever. Nothing to worry about, happy days.” Rolling Stone reports the canceled shows are likely to be rescheduled in 2012. They sum up the Symphonica tour saying it “finds the pop star performing a set of songs from throughout his career with a full orchestra. In addition to his own tunes, he has also been singing a number of covers, including hits by New Order, the Police, Rihanna and Amy Winehouse.”

Until he returns to the road, here’s some past moments with George Michael:
