Our friends at MP3.com recently relaunched their site, and to celebrate we’re helping them give away some fantastic new songs for free! Today, we’re featuring “Free” from The Cars.

After a hiatus of more than 20 years, the original members of legendary Boston rock band [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Cars[/lastfm] have returned with the album Move Like This, featuring the single “Free.” An impressive comeback for the band, Move Like This is already being heralded as the group’s best work since their 1984 classic Heartbreak City.

Starting out as a rock ‘n roll band in the late ’70s, The Cars gradually added more and more synths and drum machines to their sound, helping pioneer what became known as new wave. The band, however, never let go of their rock sensibilities and always brought an edge to even their poppiest creations.

“Free” has everything you’d hope for in a vintage Cars track: buzzing guitars, a driving beat, and, of course, singer Ric Ocasek’s instantly recognizable croon. The track brings all of their rock, pop and new wave sensibilities together to deliver just what so many fans of this classic American band needed – more Cars!
