According to the band’s producer, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Van Halen[/lastfm] have officially begun work on their first new album since 1998.

Producer John Shanks tweeted late Thursday night, “Here we go kids…vh,” then uploaded a photo of Eddie Van Halen’s amp.

This new album is no standard Van Halen retread. It is the first Van Halen album with David Lee Roth since the classic 1984.

That album was the #2 best-selling record of 1984 and featured staples “Hot For Teacher,” “Jump,” and “Panama,” so the boys will try to recapture some of that magic.

It will be interesting to see if Eddie dusts off the old keyboard for this one.
